Fellowship Description:
This ACGME accredited
shoulder and elbow fellowship program at the Beth Israel Medical Center offers an extensive and comprehensive clinical experience
in the operative and nonoperative management of shoulder and elbow
disorders. The fellowship is a one-year clinical program with
a significant research component. The Fellow is provided with
the opportunity to work closely with the attending surgeons on the
Shoulder and Elbow Service. Exposure to patients presenting
with a wide variety of pathology, including conditions of traumatic,
degenerative, and athletic etiology is offered. Opportunity for additional pediatric and fracture surgery is available.
The Fellow will
evaluate patients pre-and postoperatively and will participate
actively in the operative cases. Advanced methods of both
arthroscopic and open surgery are performed with the most current
techniques. There are over 350 shoulder and elbow procedures
performed annually. In addition to the clinical education
during attending office hours and weekly conferences, the Fellow
participates in the formal didactic lectures provided.
The Fellow is
required to complete two research projects. The projects can
be either clinical or basic science in nature and must be completed
and in publishable form by the end of the fellowship year.
This program is part
of the ASES fellowship match process. Interviews will be
conducted between Labor Day and mid-December. Positions will
be offered on the specified ASES Match Day in mid-December.
