Goals and characteristics

The Fellow will gain experience in the examination of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand in a private practice setting.
The emphasis is on tertiary, reconstructive and sports medicine surgery. The Fellow shares the experience with staff members,
and may attend bimonthly orthopaedic teaching conferences. The Fellow will learn state-of-the-art approaches to arthroscopic
and open treatment of shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand injuries. This includes trauma, arthritic conditions and sports injuries.
Approximately 30-40% deals with revision surgery.

The Fellow will also be exposed to the latest techniques in arthroscopy, endoscopic carpal tunnel release, congenital
hand anomalies, and nerve repair, as well as the routine reconstructive hand surgery procedures which include Dupuytren’s
contracture, arthritis, and trauma. Elbow ligament reconstruction and total elbow replacements comprise the majority of the
elbow cases.

Anatomical dissections and preparation of publication-quality research papers are expected in conjunction with the
fellowship. Expenses for a national orthopaedic meeting are provided by the office and/or commercial sources. The program
design does not qualify the Fellow to take the certificate of added qualification for hand surgery.

This program is part of the ASES Fellow Match. Interviews will be conducted between Labor Day and Thanksgiving.
Positions will be offered the second week of December.
