Goals and
characteristics
Our
fellowship is designed to provide exposure to a large volume and a variety of
reconstructive and traumatic surgical problems
in the shoulder and the elbow as well as teaching and research opportunities for
individuals interested in pursuing an academic career.
The fellowship includes
several rotations on different orthopedic surgery services. Our faculty
includes six full-time faculty members with
different practice profiles, including open and arthroscopic reconstructive
shoulder procedures, open and arthroscopic reconstructive elbow
procedures, sport-related injuries and acute shoulder and elbow trauma. We
provide a balanced exposure to both shoulder and elbow
problems and adjust the rotation schedule for each fellow based on their
anticipated needs and previous background and training.
The Fellow participates
actively in preoperative consultations, surgical procedures and postoperative
management. In addition, the Fellow has
access to additional training through teaching conferences and journal clubs,
on-site courses and our anatomy laboratory. Research is a
prominent part of our program, enhanced by our carefully monitored patient
registries and close cooperation with the basic science laboratories,
division of statistics and medical illustrators.
Our positions are
available beginning August 1st. Interviews are conducted between
Labor Day and late November. Positions will be offered after
the ASES Match is complete. For further information contact Dr. Joaquin
Sanchez-Sotelo at the address listed above.
This fellowship is
ACGME accredited.
