Fellowship Description:

The fellowship includes the participation in the care of patients in the private office practice of the attending surgeons, assisting in the operating room and performing surgery under the direction of the fellowship attending staff, supervising resident surgery activities, and contributing to the overall educational program. The Fellow can anticipate a reasonable amount of independent activities in terms of conducting resident/fellow conferences and surgical technique laboratories. Standard educational activities include a monthly anatomical dissection program, journal club, and interactive conferences. Multiple basic science, translational, and clinical research opportunities are available; participation in on-going projects has been encouraged and has generally resulted in excellent academic productivity.

The shoulder and elbow experience is anticipated to be extensive with over 900 cases per year being performed. Approximately 80% of the cases are shoulder and 20% are elbow. Operative experience includes a high volume of primary and revision shoulder arthroplasty (over 250 arthroplasty cases are performed annually), advanced shoulder & elbow arthroscopy, open shoulder reconstruction, shoulder and elbow fracture management, elbow ligament repair/reconstruction, and elbow arthroplasty.

Together with the research staff, the fellow will be expected to participate in active clinical and/or biomechanical research.  The fellow will be encouraged to complete at least 2 research projects.

The Shoulder and Elbow Service and Department of Orthopaedics enjoy prominence and respect within the hospital and the city of Baltimore and the surrounding Mid-Atlantic region.

This program is ACGME accredited.
The fellowship program participates in the San Francisco Match.
