Fellowship Description:

The Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship at NYU Langone Medical Center is a comprehensive educational experience for individuals who have completed their orthopedic surgery residency training.  The goals of the fellowship are for each fellow to 1) develop a broad knowledge base and to gain extensive experience in the evaluation and management of shoulder and elbow disorders; 2) to participate in teaching the principles of the management of shoulder and elbow disorders to orthopedic residents and medical students and 3) to participate in shoulder and elbow research with the goals of improving their research skills and expanding their fund of knowledge concerning shoulder and elbow disorders.

The fellowship provides exposure to the full spectrum of shoulder and elbow disorders.  There is extensive experience in outpatient care and a large volume of operative and arthroscopic procedures.  Surgical experience includes both primary and revision shoulder and elbow arthroplasty, trauma, and advanced shoulder and elbow arthroscopy.  The shoulder fellowship is also integrated with our sports medicine fellowship program to maximize exposure to sports-related shoulder and elbow disorders.

Fellows are provided with an extensive, robust academic core curriculum that includes weekly journal clubs and didactic lectures and monthly research meetings.  A fully-equipped surgical skills/ laboratory allows fellows to practice procedures and hone operative techniques throughout the fellowship year.    The fellow spends a ½ day per week in our outpatient Shoulder and Elbow Clinic where there is one-on-one supervision by a member of our teaching faculty.

This program is part of the ASES fellows selection process and ASES match.
