Anthony G. Gristina, MD

Dr. Anthony Gristina joined the faculty at Bowman Gray School of Medicine (BGSM) in 1971 as Professor and Chairman in the Section of Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Gristina’s work specialized in reconstructive surgeries, infections associated with surgery, burns, and the use of artificial limbs and organs. Dr. Gristina left BGSM in 1989 and went to Washington, D.C., to establish the Medical Sciences Research Institute. He was also a consultant in Washington to the National Institutes of Health and the Federal and Drug Administration. He died in 1998 at the age of 66.
