Dr. Robert Romano was born in Seattle in 1925, the first of three children to Mary and Joseph Romano. He attended O’Dea High School, Seattle University and St. Louis University Medical School. In 1950, he opened a family practice clinic on Beacon Hill in Seattle. Five months later he was called into active duty and sent to the front lines in Korea. He started as a combat surgeon with the 5th RTC infantry unit and was later reassigned to the 8063 MASH unit where he pioneered aspects of amputation technology. There he made the phone call of his life and became engaged to Jean Parker. They married in Seattle in April 1952. Bob, an avid skier, spent many winters hiking and exploring the mountains around Mt. Rainier to scout the location for Crystal Mountain, of which he was a founding member.
During his career, Bob grew his orthopedic surgery practice to become the highly reputable Orthopedics International from which he retired in the early 90’s. He became renowned as an excellent surgeon, having even performed the first full shoulder replacement surgery.
Bob is remembered as a highly regarded surgeon, beautiful skier, and avid gardener.
