Fellowship Description:

Northwestern University is proud to offer a one-year fellowship in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. The fellow will work with Drs. Saltzman, Marra, Nuber and Yamaguchi, whose practices involve the treatment of the full spectrum of shoulder and elbow surgery.

Clinical:
The four primary faculty see in excess of 10,000 patient visits each year and perform over 1300 surgical cases annually. The fellow will have the opportunity to perform shoulder arthroplasty with a variety of different prostheses and experience shoulder arthroscopy in both the lateral decubitus and beach chair positions. Additionally, the fellow with have adequate exposure to elbow arthroscopy, elbow trauma and elbow arthroplasty.

Location:
Clinic and surgery take place at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Elmhurst Hospital as well as an independent outpatient surgical center. This combination of venues will help prepare the fellow for clinical practice as they will experience a variety of different ways to provide patient care. The main campus is located in downtown Chicago steps from Michigan Avenue at the state-of-the art Center for Comprehensive Orthopaedic and Spine Care which has 8 dedicated orthopeadic operating rooms. Northwestern Memorial Hospital has been ranked 1st in both Chicago metro area and in Illinois for 11 consecutive years and is ranked 9th best hospital in the country by US News and World Report.

Education:
The fellow will interact with residents and medical students enrolled in the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. They will be expected to actively participate in conferences, journal clubs, and cadaveric labs. The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery also has an ACGME accredited Sports Medicine Fellowship that accepts one fellow per year.

Research:
It is expected that the fellow will prepare several manuscripts during the year. Ample support is available through the department and Northwestern University.
This is an ASES-recognized shoulder and elbow fellowship. We take part in the SF Match Fellowship selection process and Match program. Applications are accepted at any time. Interviews dates are TBD.

Prospective applicants must have completed an accredited orthopaedic surgery residency program, be board-eligible or board-certified, and have an Illinois state medical license before the fellowship begins.
