Become an ASES Member

In order to apply for membership, you must first be properly sponsored by current ASES members.  Please see the sponsorship information in the menu above for complete details. 

The sponsor period to apply for membership in 2021 will open on Monday, November 16th, 2020 and close on Thursday, January 14th, 2021. Once the appropriate number of forms have been submitted on your behalf, the ASES Office will reach out to you with the application instructions. If you believe you have the sponsors required, but have not received the application materials, please reach out to ASES staff at

Late sponsorship forms or applications will not be accepted.


Membership in ASES is a privilege and an honor. Only highly experienced orthopaedic surgeons and researchers are considered for membership. Prospective members must meet strict academic and clinical requirements to become members of ASES.

ASES Member Responsibilities

  • Compliance with the Principles of Medical Ethics of the American Medical Association and with the Bylaws;
  • Strict compliance with all Federal and State Antitrust laws, rules, and regulations;
  • Service as an article reviewer for the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons;
  • Attendance at the Annual Meeting at least once every three (3) consecutive years (does not apply to Affiliate and Corresponding Members). This responsibility is waived after fifteen (15) years of membership;
  • Submission of an abstract for presentation at the Annual Meeting at least once every three (3) consecutive years (does not apply to Affiliate and Corresponding Members); This responsibility is waived after fifteen (15) years of membership.
